Hardwood Floor Installer: A Career Opportunity

Hardwood Floor Installer: A Great Career for the Right Person

As a business owner in the current Reno/Tahoe economy, I am often approached by enthusiastic young people looking for a job. Sometimes even not-so-young people. And, while I am always on the lookout for someone who could be a talented hardwood floor installer, please understand it’s not a career to choose lightly.

Hardwood floor installing can seem tedious, boring and monotonous to the wrong personality type. It involves a lot of bending, stooping, kneeling and heavy lifting, sometimes for very long hours. It requires a mental focus capable of exacting attention to detail at every step, coupled with the physical hardiness capable of laboring at a hard pace from start to finish.

You Don’t Choose Hardwood Flooring, Hardwood Flooring Chooses You

I know that may sound trite, but it is the absolute truth. Hardwood floor installation is never easy, but it can be very rewarding. I’ve seen hundreds of people get into the hardwood flooring business as installers, thinking it would be like any other laborer gig. They seem to have assumed that the ability to accurately swing a hammer plus knowing which end of a power tool to hold, would be all the job must require. If only it were that simple.

You Need the Mindset of a True Craftsman to be a Hardwood Floor Installer

The ideal candidate for a hardwood flooring career is someone who takes inordinate pride in their workmanship. Someone who consistently puts “Customer Satisfaction” at the forefront of their mind. Someone who is part artist, part carpenter, part laborer and part mathematician. Every new hardwood floor is unique. Every installation will offer challenges which require creativity and imagination, coupled with a solid working knowledge of carpentry and geometry. It is not a career for the under-educated.

A career hardwood floor installer also understands the importance of the team. The finished product and the customer’s satisfaction is far more important than any individual team member. We all have to work together seamlessly to deliver the promises we make at the beginning of the job.

I Named the Company “Artisan” for a Reason

Artisan Hardwood Floors only employs true Artists. I make a promise of old world craftsmanship and beautiful lasting quality on every floor I install. From the most affordable laminate installation to the most exotic foreign hardwood redux, that promise of integrity is how I stay in business.

If you think you might want to pursue a career as a hardwood floor installer, and you genuinely believe you have the experience and know-how it takes to succeed in a company like Artisan, please do contact me. Even though I am not currently hiring, I can sometimes create a position for the right individual.

If you are considering having new flooring installed and you want to use a company with only the highest standards, I would love to talk to you as well.
