Professional Hardwood Floor Installation, Part 1

Choosing a Professional  for Hardwood Floor Installation

If installed properly, your new hardwood floors will improve the quality of your life and increase the value of your home. The people you allow into your home to install your hardwood flooring, need to have more than just the tools. You will want installers who will be in your community for many years to come. You will want installers who are members of the National Wood Flooring Association, because they stay up-to-date on the latest products, services and best practices in the industry.

While it might be tempting to “save money” by hiring an individual off Craigslist or some other Internet advertising, you have no guarantee that individual will perform your work to the highest standards. Nor do you know if they will be available in the future, should problems crop up. Which says nothing of the additional money you might have to spend, to correct their mistakes.

Choosing a Product

The hardwood you choose to install in your home or office will probably be there long after you have moved on. Fortunately, all hardwood floors are beautiful in their own rights. However, choosing exactly the right product for your personal tastes can sometimes require the help of a seasoned professional. Helping you distill all the myriad choices available to you, down to the perfect wood and pattern to fit your desires, requires experience and no little artistic talent.

Dark, medium or light woods? Lines squared off to your walls, or cut diagonally? Intricate percale mosaics, or clean uniformity? All are beautiful, all might work, all have different costs involved. Finding exactly the right combination to suit your tastes and budget, is where an experienced professional artisan comes in.

Preparing Your Home.

While we would love every hardwood floor installation we perform to be on a new home during its construction, that is often not the case. It is also convenient to work on rental properties between renters, but again, that is often not the case. If we are coming into your home to remove current flooring and installed new hardwood floors, there are some minor preparations we would ask you to perform.

  • Remove all furniture and furnishings from the room(s) to be worked in. We will of course help you if you need, it is simply easier for us to begin work if the space is ready for us.
  • Have a clear path to and through the entrance we will be using. Again, we are happy to help remove furniture and furnishings from the hallways and entryways between our workspace and the exit. We also provide drop-cloths and plastic sheeting to protect your walls and floors while we work.
  • Please keep a close eye on pets and children, which are often quite curious about the work we are performing. Most of our work is performed with sharp metal objects, and we all love pets and children too much to see them accidentally harmed by our equipment.

In my next blog post, I will be covering the procedures and steps taken in the actual replacement and installation of hardwood flooring. If you can’t wait until my next blog, feel free to contact me today so we can discuss the details in person.
