“How Much Will It Cost Me to Have You Install a New Hardwood Floor?”
Please understand this is my favorite question about hardwood flooring, and I hear it almost every day. I have come to see it as a great complement; some people believe I am so experienced with installation that I can instantly know how the hardwood floor installation cost for their home or business, without having ever seen their floors.
In reality, I have become very good at making spot estimates once I have a few facts in hand. I want to go over what those facts are today, so you can have a better understanding of the estimate process. The factors that determine your particular hardwood floor installation cost include square footage, type of flooring you want, and the kind of look you hope to attain.
How Many Square Feet Is Your Floor
When measuring out how much new flooring you’re going to need it’s important to also measure closet space, cubbies, pantries, stairs and risers, along with the general floors and hallways. You can do that yourself, or we can do that for you.
What Kind of New Flooring Do You Want Installed
This question might be a little more complicated than it sounds. The broad range and variety of materials available to you for your flooring, is breathtaking. Not only can you choose the classic solid wood flooring, there is also engineered wood, laminates, bamboo and even cork. The price of the materials can range anywhere from as little as $.49 is a square foot to as much is $15 or $20 a square foot. Which does not include the molding, trim, reducers and kick plates.
We will also need to determine the correct underlayment for your needs. Beyond the standard moisture barrier and cushion, does your floor need leveling or would you perhaps like it to be electronically warmed from underneath? You have a lot of great options.
What Kind of Look Do You Want Your New Flooring to Achieve
This question really addresses the heart of the matter. Above and beyond the lasting durability, ease of maintenance and health benefits of your new hardwood floor, there is the intrinsic beauty and the statement it makes. A properly installed hardwood floor can last for generations, the colors, textures and patterns you choose will subtly tie everything else in each room together. Wide plank or narrow? Long straight lines or intricate percale? High-traffic or quiet?
Most importantly, what is your budget?
